Adults: start small

Kyorin’s medaka feeding directions suggest an amount consumed in about 2–3 minutes and removal of leftovers. Treat that as product guidance, not a universal ration. Follow your food label and adjust to actual consumption.

Fry: check access to food

Once feeding begins, fry need particles small enough for their mouths. Offer tiny portions and verify that they actually eat. Food floating nearby does not prove that a fry can consume it.

Heat changes the decision

On hot days, check the fish before feeding. Do not increase rations simply to accelerate growth. If feeding response or breathing changes, inspect the system and remove leftovers.

Make feeding an observation habit

Observe whether every fish reaches food. Try separate feeding spots if access is uneven. Log “all feeding”, “leftovers” or “one refusing”. Pre-portion food for another keeper rather than relying on an ambiguous pinch.

Before offering more

  • Particles fit the mouth
  • All fish can feed
  • No accumulating leftovers
  • Water and behaviour look normal
